Background
When it comes to booking and management software, the beauty and wellness industry is notoriously slow to adopt new processes and technologies. In addition to a few powerful software businesses that have monopolized the space, this resistance to change had made it difficult for challenger brands to gain market share. However, with industry business models evolving and profit margins diminishing, providing a better solution became more viable.
Challenge
Mangomint needed to build a next-generation product while executing a go-to-market strategy focused on marketing services. We also needed to adapt the established brand look and feel into the software while maintaining a best-in-class user experience – one that improved dated workflows without creating user shock from unfamiliar UI/UX.
Process
To deliver a superior product, we needed to identify all the pain points of current industry solutions. We did a deep dive into the competitive landscape and conducted dozens of interviews with industry professionals before beginning the design process. Once we reached an MVP, we rolled out an early access program to a select group of existing marketing customers to get feedback. We repeated this process with a larger group for our beta test before doing the public launch.
“
Mangomint was a game-changer. We switched from MindBody and honestly, there are too many improvements to mention. It’s just better!

Online Booking
We completely reinvented the online booking experience. By creating a fully responsive embedded widget, we enable customer's clients to book directly from their website on any device. Besides dramatically simplifying the booking workflow, Mangomint's solution requires no client account creation and provides businesses with an array of customization to meet their specific needs.
KEY WORKFLOWS
Appointment Creation & Checkout
Users spend more than 75% of their time in-app in the calendar and checkout process, so getting the UI/UX of the hero screen was critical – from identifying the happy path to planning for all the edges cases. We designed this workflow, knowing that key users need to multitask during scheduling, so having the calendar remain persistent was essential. The resulting interface is purposefully uncluttered and designed for ease-of-use.
Client Timeline
Beauty and wellness professionals may not be super tech-savvy, but they know social media. To keep a thriving business, they have to. So when we set out to rethink how to manage client information, we looked to, well, social media. We created a feed-like UI that puts all client actions on a chronological timeline. It allows users to save appointments, keep track of color formulas, notes, purchase history, and upload photos and files so you can check progress over multiple visits.
Outcome
With Mangomint, we built a product that took beauty and wellness professionals out of the technological dark ages by providing a solution that meets modern salons and spas' needs. The beautiful and fast interface, smart workflows, and attention to detail resulted in a product that's easy to use and adapt. In an industry experiencing significant business model changes, Mangomint is currently leading customers to a more reliable and profitable future.
Role
I lead the UX/UI effort pre and post-launch, working closely with our product manager and lead developer. I was involved in strategic roadmap sessions and tasked with identifying and designing smarter workflows, interfaces, and automations. I continued to iterate on the product as we learned from customer feedback, providing designs for new features as they rolled out.
